Convert old FLV file to edit in Vegas?

MikeLV wrote on 12/28/2020, 4:24 PM

I have a very old .FLV file. What/how should I convert it to a format that can be opened on the timeline in Vegas, and lose as little quality as possible in the process? Thank you

@MikeLV

Since you are an HOS user, just use the ImportAssist tool. There is an option to transcode flv files.

Here's a screen grab. Note that your version won't have the tooltip description, but it works the same.

Thanks, I had no idea this was available! I tried the re-wrap option but it gave me this error, so does that mean I have to transcode it?

Try transcoding it.

"No video was found in the file" But it does play video in VLC. In the Codec info for the video in VLC, it says "On2's VP6.2 Video (Flash) (VP6F)" Does that help at all? it was a video that was encoded in 2008.. Can't find the original tape so I was going to try and work from the encoded video..

There might be some help from the FLV entry in the FileInfo database:

... though they seem to be mostly players.

@Dexcon yes, I see that, like I said, I can play the video/audio fine in VLC. @wwaag is going to look at the file to see why it won't work in the ImportAssist tool of HOS.

I have an old program called format factory that I believe can format FLV files to almost any other format.
