Convert Vegas to MOV and Back

I have a need to render a MOV file so my client can edit on it in iMovie and then give it back to me as a MOV file exported from iMoive that I can finish editing.

What render settings should I use to render the MOV file from the Vegas 6 project? Quality is important and I would like a file size similar to an DV-AVI file rendered from Vegars 6.

avi is just a wrapper. mov is just a wrapper around video data.

Look at the info for the quicktime default template? Does it look familiar? now check the template for DV avi.

The default value of MOV rendering gives a create picture, but it is "uncompressed" and therefore a huge file (2.4GB/min).

I don't have a choice called "DV." Besides "Default" there are several compression choices like "1mbps video." You may be talking about a video format (codec) choice under "customize." However, when I choose "DV/DVCPRO-NTSC," I get results that are pixelated and show compression artifacts when played in the QT player.

The problem is that the default for QT is "low quality" which was a way to give the very slow Macs of a time long gone normal frame rates.

In QT Pro, set the "High Quality" flag and you'll be OK.

(OK enough to change Vegas' default parameter values for lower bit rate QT, these are just plain wrong.)

QT7 has a setting to default to the high quality flag also.

Have you tried giving your client a DV .avi file? iMovie should be able to open it.
