Converting from camcorder to Vegas Video 5

I am converting videos from an old camcorder (using 8mm tapes) and copying directly to a DVD recorder. The output file is being copied as a real DVD (VOB files). The 2 hour tape is being converted to 5 VOB files (about 1 GB each). I am trying to drag and drop these into Vegas 5, however can not do so. How do I go about doing this? Are there any specific plug-ins I need?

Thanks

There is I believe software to help convert VOB to MPEG2, but another solution would be to upgrade to Vegas 6.0d which has an import from DVD/Camcorder function.

BUT

You'll still end up with compressed MPEG2 - if you need to edit it would be better still to pass the original analogue from your 8mm camcorder through either a digital camcorder or an Analogue/Digital converter such as the Canopus. These connect via firewire to Vegas. This way you'll have DV avi files to work with - a much better proposition.

could you reccomend software to use to convert from VOB to MPEG2? I do not have access to a digital camcorder so that option would not work for me.

thanks

I've read about one called DVD2AVI - do a search in this forum for
VOB + convert
- there are several threads on this topic.
