cookie cutter and the like

When watching tv I take notice of effects - if I see one that I like, I try to replicate it in vegas.
One I have seen recently concerns a "cookie cutter" effect. The effect starts off with a circle that deforms into a square.
So I started off with a circle effect, then near the end I changed into a square with a keyframe thinking it might transform . All that happened is that it started off with a circle (which remained) and instantly changed to a square at the keyframe.
Obviosly you cannot change the effect type within the sequence!

Any comments?
Mel.

That's right and I cannot think of a way to do this totally within Vegas.
You'd need to create a mask that morphed from a circle to a sphere in some other application first.

Yes, you're right Bob - even the gradient media gens have the same outcome.
So, anyone know of a morphing tool (free of course) that can morph a mask?
Not crucial really but it does keep the mind thinking!

The Bezier mask tool can, I suppose, be used to some extent, but it is quite difficult to get the exact shape of the mask between a square and a circle from one keyframe to the next.

Eh? Bezier Curves? But use ANCHOR. This'll get you some nice right angles. Then do try out a Triangle next . . and so on? OVALS to CIRCLES .. SQUARES weird shapes! THEN try keyframing in FEATHER .. hoooo .. very classy!

only a thought . .

Track 1: first clip . .Track 2: second clip!

So a Transition that happens as a result of LAYERING, rather than "pushing" one clip into another.

The "accuracy" can be improved by popping up another layer WITH a square or other shape - lower its opacity so you can use it as a kinda template? ..

HAH!

How about using the Preview GRIDS?!?!?! Just done perfect Triangle to Square!

Excellent wish of yours .

Thanks Grazie for your thoughts.
The circle is a mask that does require a lot of messing about with.
Pity we were not given some presets for these difficult shapes.
Feathering does "mask" some of the shape errors - but does increase rendering time by an order.
Must now workout adding a border around these shapes!!!
(BTW - the Churchill dog advert inspired the original question)
