Cookie cutter aspect ratio problem with WMV

I'm having an aspect ratio problem with the cookie cutter only when rendering to WMV. It sounds similar to the problem discussed here: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=179764

I am using 5.0b. I have tried the suggestions from the above thread, but that hasn't resolved the problem.

THE DETAILS
My project is using the NTSC DV Widescreen (720x480) template. I have a track with an avi, and above it a track with generated media and a cookie cutter with an oval side cutaway section. The effect is to display the underlying video in a feathered oval. This works perfectly when I preview and when I render to mpg2. When I render to WMV the oval is severally squeezed horizontally, and the top and bottom of the oval extend above and below the frame. When I render to WMV widescreen I render at 871x480 since media player only supports square pixels. This works perfectly for other footage, and for this clip EXCEPT for the cookie cutter being distorted. In other words, the underlying footage is at the correct aspect ratio.

WHAT I'VE TRIED
1. Rendered to mpg2 - works fine.
2. Verified that the aspect ratio for both the generated media event, and the underlying video event are set to 16:9.
3. Rendered with "stretch to fill" checked and unchecked.

ANY IDEAS?

I've been able to work around the problem by using a bezier mask in place of the cookie cutter. I would still like to understand what is going on with the cookie cutter here if anyone has any insights.

I ran across a similar problem with a photo montage I did that was in NTSC Widescreen format. When I rendered to WMV the PIP track compositing (image grids) was all out of wack.

I screwed around until I did the following.

in WMV render setting set custom size to 360 x 240 (not 320x240) and set the Picture Aspect Ration to 1.33.

DO NOT check the Stretch image (no letterboxing) or whatever it says.

With these settings I get everything lining up right, and nothing is squished.

That wasted 2 hours. sheese

good luck
