Cookie Cutter Fade-In/Dissolve Possible?

Is there a way to make the cookie effect fade in with regard to opacity of the surrounding (black) region? And likewise fade out? I see you can key-size it, key-color it, etc., but I am talking strictly opacity. I do not even see the ability to adjust opacity. I would basically like the center-circle showing with the black surrounding region to gradually fade in on top of the already running video clip.

I have tried every which I can think of to no effect.

Is this even possible?

Thank you very much for your help.

You can probably just make a copy of your clip, and place it on a track above. The clip on the bottom track would have the cookie cutter applied, the upper one wouldn't. Then just adjust the opacity of the upper track (using an opacity envelope). That should give you what you want...

Or,

You could try the gradient generator with transparent center on the upper track; fade in with reduced opacity or semitranceparency in the generated gradient
