Still love Vegas but wanted to do some color correcting in Davinci Resolve. Is there a way to take select clips from my Vegas timeline and import them into Davinci Resolve. Thanks

This is a question out of curiosity. What can you do in Resolve in color correcting that you can not do in Vegas?

And as far as I know, you would have to do your grading in Resolve, render, and bring that clip into Vegas for further editing. But .... I could be wrong.

Just curious about which specific part of the Resolve Color Page are you using?

Well, I can use the qualifier to select an area to correct very easily. I can also use different windows to segment an area to correct. I can also track an object and quiet easily use a very good depth map to blur a background just to mention a few.

I agree with the power windows- I've tried doing similar things in VEGAS with Z-depth and smart mask but ends up being slower or jankier than I'd like.

You can export a Vegas timeline (with trimmed events but without FX etc) and import directly into Davinci Resolve:

Now THAT is good news at last 3POINT !!!! cheerios !

XML export in VP has been kind of a ''weak link'' for years so it's much appreciated; *now* I might update to VP22 just for that. I have to check about BWF management, that's been overlooked too, and that'd seal the deal :D .

Otherwise, for older VP versions (like I have, very old) , there might be a shortcut; render your project with best quality in VP, then import the rendered video in DR and use its Clip Detection function. For simple cuts, it'll find these cuts and slice everything on the timeline.

Using Color Slices in DR and also Fusion for effects here.

Also, I want to interact with post-prod houses here and they mainly use DR and Premiere. If I could juggle with Vegas into the whole equation and it was easy, I'd be a happy camper.

This is great news but I still need a little clarification... I selected a few clips as you had shown in your first screen shot. What I got was the XLM file but in addition it made copies of all the MP4 files along with it and I'm not sure what your second screen shot is instructing me to do.
I did render the XLM file does not drag and drop onto the edit tab of Davinci so I'm confused as to how I load up the XLM file in order to begin editing in Davinci. Thanks for your help.

@Roger Bansemer I'm on vacation in Spain and don't have acces to my PC, but as shown in my former post you export an XML file together with copies of the used media in a separate folder.

Importing into Davinci is a two step process, first import the xml file media and then import the XML file timeline.

I'll be trying soon but my guess now is that, into DR, go into Media Pool, then top left File / Import / Media from XML

Been doing some research on importing Vegas into DaVinci thanks to the prior tips that have been posted and thanks for that, and it is possible to import but there is a big issue and I've found the answer in this video so instead of trying to explain it I'll just enclose the link.

I think the best solution for me might be just to do my editing in Vegas without transitions, render it and then put it in Davinci and have Davinci separate the clips and edit it that way for my effects such as depth maps, relight, etc, etc. Let me know what you think.
The other issue is when creating an XML file it takes FOREVER AND EVER.
Thanks
