"copy and trim media with project" error and stack dump

Frenchy wrote on 2/19/2003, 5:19 PM
Has anyone else had an error and program exit while attempting to do this?

System: Dell P3-600
384 MB RAM
30 GB 7200 rpm system HDD
45 GB 7200 rpm media/project HDD (12GB free)
Win98SE
Dell-supplied IEEE1394 compliant firewire card
V4 build 115 (also occurred with the beta)

Never an issue with VV3.0c

While performing a "Save As", and having "copy and trim media with
project" checked, and "create trimmed copies of source media" checked,
with 2 seconds of Extra head and tail, an exception occurred with the
following details:

Sonic Foundry Vegas 4.0
Version 4.0 (Build 115)
Exception 0xC0000090 (float invalid operation) IP:0x5EA398
In Module 'VEGAS40.EXE' at Address 0x400000 + 0x1EA398

remainder of the stack dump deleted...

Project is composed entirely of DV, stills(.png) grabbed from the DV in VV3.0c and the V4 beta, and music (.pca files created from .mp3's in SoundForge 6.0

Hi all,
I'm a frenchie too, and when i try to save with trimmed copies of source media i have an error message: ! An error occured while creating the media file. The selected codec does not support the current render setting." ???
Just trying to save with trimmed copie of media, no codec selected.
I'm working with AVI DV PAL media captured with the SoFo Video Capture 4.0
Using Vegas 4.0b.

Hi Jean-Michel, others,

can it be that Vegas simply does not support this feature in PAL? A test points out that NTSC works fine, but PAL doesn't.

Hi,

I'm based in the UK, so obviously I am using PAL as well.
I get exactly the same problem when trying to save and trim media.
i.e. : An error occured while creating the media file.
The selected codec does not support the current render setting.

Can Sonic Foundry confirm whether this is a bug in Vegas 4.0?
If so, will it be fixed in the next update?

There was a thread on this a few days ago... If I recall that option only works properly if the project is straight DV (re: the manual, this is the way it works, not something broken). They didn't report any crashes though, but then I don't think they had any stills either.

? I don't seem to be able to find this thread... Unfortunately straight DV also doesn't work: even with a single PAL clip on a test project in PAL the errormessage appears about the codec. No crashes though: just the message. In NTSC: no problem! Any thoughts? Thanks.

Did you start the project with the Vegas 4 Beta? - That ended up being the problem in my case - verified by SF. I have since tried it (copy and trim) with another project (completely within the production versions 4.0 and 4.0b) and I had no problems. I'm in NTSC land, FWIW. Good luck

The new Vegas Version 4.0c should fix this bug. Had the same problem with 4.0b, tried it out right now with the new Version and a short project, worked ok. Obviously had to do with 25p/50i PAL.

"Copy and trim media with project" still showing some peculiar behavior with PAL Media in V4.0c. AVIs are trimmed without audio, only separate w64 audio files saved. Is this the way it's meant to be? When I tried it with a stray NTSC avi-file on my computer, avi was saved with the audio, and a separate w64 as well.
