copy markers to other file

I placed markers and regions in a WAV file in Sound Forge, and then used the regions to mark CD tracks in Vegas (VEG file) for burning a CD. Then I decided to go back and use an earlier version of the WAV file, which means I lost all the work of placing markers/regions...or does it?

Is there a way to copy the markers from one WAV file to another? (ie the internal markers in the file).

Is there a way to copy the Vegas markers/regions/CD tracks on timeline to a new track or veg file?

You could copy the old file to the clipboard, then Paste / Replace into the new file, then save into a different file name. This will create a new file with the markers and the old file's contents.

In Vegas, if you've set the markers on the timeline then merely replace the contents of the audio track with the other audio file since the markers are part of the project. If you had placed the markers in the file itself rather than in the timeline then you'll have to do something similar to the above procedure.

Export the Markers and Regions into an SFL file.. then load them into the other file.

Great! Thanks!! The Special, Regions List, Save as/Open commands do the trick! (I thought it would only copy regions...but it saves/restores markers, too.)

Just one little detail... The Sound Forge Open Regions/Playlist (sfl) command clears the regions list before importing the sfl file. Is there a way to ADD or MERGE the new markers/regions into an existing region list, without wiping out the existing markers? I tried opening an sfl file in notepad, but it doesn't look like it is editable in a text editor.

In Vegas, the Trimmer lets me Save Markers/Regions (Vegas timeline markers/regions) into a wav file, adding to any existing markers in the file.

How about going the other direction? Is there a way to make the markers/regions in a wav file show as Vegas timeline markers/regions? (a script perhaps?) I can see the little internal markers on the events on the timeline, and the cursor snaps to them, but I can't select a region in a wav file by double clicking the wav region on the timeline. I just get the whole event selected.

The only way I know is self serving.. use my Region Synch app to convert the regions to Pro Tools regions and then import the new SFL regions.. then drag the Pro Tools regions over... but it only works with regions, not Markers.

Perhaps someone else has a better option.

I've added the ability to Region Synch to import region definitions from another sound file.
