Copy/Past Track Motion

Hi Again,

I have a large project and I started to edit bits and pieces of it. Unfortunately it was done in two separate veg files, and now I'm having problems cutting/pastign the two together. It seems that on project 1 I have applied some track motion, but when I select my clips to go into project 2, it does not create the tract with the motion. I even tried just creating the track and pasting in the clip (to project 2), but again my track motion was lost. So the question is: How do you cut/paste the track motion as well.

Here are my project 1 settings
9 Tracks total
Track 1,2,3 --> Have track motion applied (Video)
Track 4,5,6 -->For color pass (Video)
Track 7 --> Main Video
Track 8,9 --> Audio

Project 2 settings:
Track 1 --> Video Text
Track 2 --> Mian Video
Track 4, 5 --> Audio

I'm trying to bring project 1 into project 2.

Thanks
-GG

(I did search some older posts about opening the track motion keyframe and manually do a cut/paste)..this will sort of help (I think).

When you cut/paste a range of tracks (video and audio) to project 2, how does the project 2 behave? Meaning how does it add the tracks? Does it just append to the hilited track your on and create new tracks as needed...does it just paste everything below the hilited track your on by creating new audio and video tracks even if they already exists?

I tried a few things but can't make sense of it. I would like it too just create all new tracks when pasting, instead of trying to append to existing tracks.

Wow, did I make sense?

Just render the two segments and create a third project consisting of those two renders.

Won't I loose quality if I then have to re-render the final project?

Are you saying to render as AVI?

Thanks.

If you make NO additional changes (i.e. add effects) then the final render will simply COPY the original file. So, NO you will NOT lose quality.

It might be easier to save project 1 as a new name and than bring project 2 into the new project, as there are no track motion in project 2.

If you don't have a lot of keyframes in the track motion, you can save the setting (of project 1) as preset. Then go to project 2, create new tracks and apply the track motion with the presets.

Note that any track level fx that you applied in project 1 will need to be re-applied/re-created in project 2.

There is no easy way to cut/paste track motion. You can cut/paste individual keyframes for a specific fX, but if you have many fX, plus pan/crop motion, this is ridiculously tedious.

Wow...very neat! I like that! (Saving the project track preset)..why didn't I think of that?

Great thanks guys, I have two great workarounds to use (depending on my projects). I would of loved to just render, but since I may need to make more changes (fussy client), I think I'll go with door #2 (presets).

What a great morning isn't it?

There is another method I have used;

Open up the track motion window you want to copy the keyframes from and click drag the mouse around all the keyframes you want then press CTRL-C.

Once you've copied the track across you need to work out where the first keyframe should be then open the trackmotion window for the new file and enter the time value for the first keyframe in the box in the bottom right-hand corner then pres CTRL-V.
