There are any number of apps available to beat the copy protection on commercial DVDs - if someone wants to copy your DVD you can't stop them! This has been discussed before in this forum, but the best option seems to be to include a copyright notice to remind people that they're not supposed to do it.

The only way to copy protect is to go to replication - you can't do it with duplication. And as was pointed out, with so many ways available to defeat copy protection, you're basically just keeping honest people honest (and usually not even that).

You can educate folks. Or depending on what you're doing, get your money up-front. For example, I've done a couple of school plays - the agreement is usually a fixed amount divided by the number of DVDs that are pre-ordered. This works well because if one parent starts running off free copies for other parents, then parents that helped foot the initial bill act as my copy protection.
