Copy tracks between projects

With 2 instances of Vegas open I can copy and paste events between them. But, is there any way to copy and paste tracks? I have some fairly complex dynamic track level scaling and positioning going at a track level and I need the same track / events to be used in another project. It would be great to just copy the entire track and paste it into my current project.

I don't think it can be done, but I figured I'd ask...

Thanks for any info offered.

BTW - I can isolate the needed track in the original project by deleting all of the other tracks, save the project with a new name, and nest the resulting project into the current project. That works, but there are 8 tracks from the original project that I need (not next to each other) and this would be kinda clunky.

jdw, I'm not aware of a way to copy a track directly but you can:

1. copy the events from the original to a track in your new project, then copy the original track keyframes to the new project's track, or
2. mute all but the desired track in the original project and nest original veg in the new.

Your 1. option would work, but very slow. I found that you can only copy and paste one keyframe at a time and some of the tracks have 20 or so keyframes and there are 6 tracks...

Another thing I found in the process of converting some elements from the older version of the project (Vegas 8) is that the Cookie Cutter in Vegas 8 considers 0.000 (zero) the top of the frame and version 12 considers the top of the frame to be 1.000, this may not seem like a big deal, but I'm having to do some math for the position of each keyframe to "flip" the coordinates. Why on earth would the SCS guys do that? Maybe to conform to some new standard? Either way it sure slows down an already slow process.

Making progress though...

Jim, I just successfully copied a series of track position keyframes from one veg to another which is opened in a 2nd instance of Vegas. One possible reason it works for me is I am going from SVP12 to SVP12. Maybe there is an issue copying from older to 12? But in case it is something different in your technique, here is what I did:

1. In existing SVP12 project I opened the track motion dialog and clicked on 1st position keyframe, then went to last keyframe and shift-clicked, then ctrl-c.
2. Opened new instance of SVP12 and created an empty video track.
3. Opened the track motion dialog and clicked on the desired starting position and ctrl-v.

Jerry,

You're right. It does work. I was attempting the copy / paste using two instances of VP12, so I'm not sure why it didn't work. It sure would have save me a bunch of work if it had worked the first time I tried. I just started manually creating the keyframes -- took about 2 hours.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out for me :-)

any track fx, save as presets...

dlion, Jim was trying to copy the track position keyframes from one project to another. Are you saying there is a way to do THAT with presets?

I tried moving an entire section in a Vegas 8 project to a new instance of Vegas as per the instructions and it didn't work. It says to use the normal edit tool to drag and highlight a section then copy and paste it into a new instance of Vegas. However, unlike the instructions, all tracks are not highlighted and copied. Only a single track is highlighted and copied. Using the shift key doesn't make it work either even though the instructions don't say it is necessary to use the shift key, only to drag and highlight and all tracks will be selected (which they won't).

If I use the selection edit tool, it works. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
