copying a chunk of video from a rendered video

This has probably been answered several times but I can't find it. I want to take a bit of video from a fairly long .avi file I have already rendered and insert it into a project I am working on. I tried to open the rendered file in VideoFactory, select the section I want, and then copy it to the clipboard. Next I open the project I am working on but the "clip" is no longer on the clipboard. Is there a way of saving a selected area of a video to a separate file? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Open the project first then add the .avi file.

A video clip is probably way too huge to be stored on the clipboard. Just add it to the timeline in your new project and trim it down to the section you want to use.

It only works if you close the program and then reopen it again, if you use the NEW project command, apparently that clears out the clipboard. So copy your clip, close the application, open it again and you can paste the copied clip.
