copying/backing up medialib files?

Why is that neither simple copy operation, nor even backup with specialized software ((such as WD Backup Anywhere I'm using with my new DW My Book Studio Edition II drive), are able to copy the c:\\my documents\sony media libraries\my-name.medialib type of files? Some strange access/ownership rights setting, but what for and what is the work-around?

Such errors usually happen when a file is currently in use by its appropriate application, but of course this is not the case here...

Sorry for shamelessly bumping this up, but I hate stupid problems like this and am counting on your help. Vegas must use some special ownership settings for its media manager library files, because they cannot be copied (even with Admin rights), or backed up by a specialized software... This is not good, as it'd be nice to have a backup copy of one's own libraries, and also because a software like the WD Backup Anywhere (running in background all the time) will try these files every 2 mins, causing unnecessary burden on the system and preventing the 2TB drive to switch into power saving mode!

The files "belong" to SQL Server not Vegas, it runs regardless of Vegas.
Not much of an expert on that but I think if you shutdown SQL Server itself then your backup will succeed.

I have disabled the option in Vegas to keep the SQL server running when Vegas is shut down. With all instances of Vegas closed, I have no problem copying the medialib files to offline storage.

How did you disable this option - even in SHIFT+Preferences, I can't find it?

I backup mine every day with Retrospect backup and even simetimes via a simple copy function.

If Vegas is running, yes, it will not allow you to copy it. With Vegas off, I have never had a problem.

I assume you are set up as an Administrator.

OK guys, sorry for false alarm and confusion; I have figured out the reason for my probs. I'm using a dual-boot system, and - either from under XP, or Vista x64 - tend to store my data in physically the same locations. I simply forgot that a couple of months ago, I stored my own library while working with Vegas undr Vista; it's this the .medialib file that couldn't be copied from under XP, as it belonged to another owner!
