Copying Key Framing

Jameson_Prod wrote on 5/15/2004, 6:20 AM
Is it possible to copy a set of keyframes from one clip and apply to another clip?

I have set up several video tracks to move video clips across the screen by keyframing. I want to continually change the clips but want to keep the same motion for each clip...ie move the same way just different clip....one following another. When I change or add clips, I lose the keyframing. Is there a way to copy the keyframing from one clip to another?

Thanks in advance.

Copy the clip and then add the other footage as a TAKE

I am wanting to copy the keyframes themselves...not the clip. I want to use different clips with the same keyframes in a different location. Imagine a clip moving onto the screen...then moving off. I want to copy that movement and apply it to another clip following the first clip. Another words, one right after the other (hope I am explaining that somewhat clearly)

Is it just not possible? I hate the thoughts of re-creating keyframes 15 or 20 times manualy......

Thanks.

Do ALL of what I said:

1) COPY the clip which will make a second copy WITH the keyframes in place.

2) ADD the NEW clip to the new copy as a TAKE. This will "replace" the original clip with the new clip BUT the keyframes will still be in place.

This will give you the net results you are seeking.

Sorrry JET...... I'm obviously doing something wrong.

I tried it the first time you suggested but it didn't work. I thought maybe you didn't understand what I was after. But the problem is on my end. I copied the clip 3 different ways.... none have worked for me. What am I missing??

I right-clicked and chose select events to end, paste.....I only get the clip.

I went to the edit menu and chose select all, paste.....I only get the clip.

I changed to the selection tool arrow and hightlighted the clip, paste.....still only the clip.

Nothing gives me the keyframes. What am I doing wrong with the copy...or maybe the paste? It has got to be something stupid........

Thanks for the time and patience!

Add the new clip by RIGHT CLICKING and dragging over copied clip. A menu will pop up- selevt "add as takes"

How about selecting the first clip and do a "copy" then select any or all of the next clips, right click and use "paste event attributes"?

I sincerely appreciate all the help but I am missing something....everything you guys suggest copies the clip....but never the key frames located under it.

I'll keep working.....THANKS for the help.

Does the fact that it is Track Motion keyframes make a difference????

Yes. The fact that it is Track Motion keyframes makes a HUGE difference - it won't work the way I said with Track Motion.

Just open the Track Motion window, select the desired keyframes, copy, and then move to the new location on the Track Motion timeline and paste.
