Correct frame size for PAL video on PC display

I have a PAL DV tape capture (720x576) from which I will take stills to put on a website and render true size video.

What is the correct size that will make them look PROPER on a computer monitor, 720x576 or 787x576?

They both look ok to me, where 787 is slightly stretched horizontally. but what is the accepted and correct way for displaying on a computer monitor?

There is no such thing as a simple answer to that. If you use resolutions of 1024x768 or 1600x1200 on your Monitor, all is well and you should be happy with 787x576. If you use 1280x1024 and stretch it to fill your screen (that's a ratio of 5:4 stretched to 4:3) pictures will look stretched horizontally, if you display them at 787x576.

Well you're right there is a template for it. But if I place a 720x576 PAL DV in a 768x576 SQR pixel project template, I get black bars on the top and bottom of the output preview.

787 is simply 720 x 1.0926PAR.

Can anybody shed some more light on this please?

Hmm I'm pretty sure there must be a standard for square pixel video if we are displaying it on a PC. Like 320x240 for instance or 640x480.
So what i'm asking i guess is what resolution should I make the PAL videos for display on computers ?

Eman, if you use the diskette symbol to save your frame in PAL, you automatically get 786x576, which looks ok to me. The standard square pixel PAL video size would be 768x576. If you can read German I'd recommend

but beware, you may be in for a headache.
