Correct metadata authoring ??

Hi, I have recently contacted Dolby asking what the requirements are when
creating a Dolby certified DVD.
And at which points they will look. ( To recieve a Dolby Trailer)

This is what they said.

In terms of technical evaluation, we check (and I may have missed a few things here):-

General audio quality
A/V Sync
Correct metadata authoring
Correct logo/ trailer usage
Correct description of audio format
Navigation and selection of audio tracks

I don't get the "Correct metadata authoring" part, is that the DVD bitrate setting?

I have also mentioned that I use Vegas 5 & DVDA2 by the way.

Thanks for any reply guys.

So no one knows what metadata authoring is?? :-)

Open the AC3 encoder, click the Custom button, Click the bitstream tab. Here you'll find metadata dialogs. Metadata tells the decoder how to behave in certain situations unless you're using a Dolby E decoder. (which you likely aren't)
It's not listed as "metadata" in the encoder, but it's only occasionally listed as "metadata" in encoders.

( I am using Vegas + DVD )

Do you mean in DVDA 2?
Or do you mean the stand-alone AC3 encoder?, I dont think that comes with the Vegas +DVD. :-s

DVDA doesn't give you access to the metadata. It MUST be done in Vegas. And yes, Vegas +DVD comes with the encoder.

Just 1 more question ; - ), At AC3 Encoder settings/EXT.Bitstream
I can set Dolby surround EX mode to "Dolby surround EX encoded"

Does this mean that the centre (Back) surround channel will be active as well?

In the surround editing menu I dont see a seperat EX channel icon ( except L R SL SR & Centre), so can an audio track actually be assigned
to the EX channels?

Thanks.

From what I can gather the centre rear channel in DD EX is much like the rear channels in Pro Logic. I don't think it is a discrete channel. So I too would be interested in knowing if Vegas can do EX encoding.

If that would be the case then why, add an extra amp only for that channel.
Then better connect the centre rear with the Lsur and R sur.
