Correcting editing error

Hi I have an OBS video track and a video track of me talking to camera.

I edit the two together and flip between them when doing the edit.

However somehow I messed up somewhere and think I have deleted a clip from the OBS track without realising.

This made the top track out of sync with the bottom, but I did all the edits and so have one big mess.

I have older versions, under advanced save, but have now added 60 chapter titles and also I have no idea where I went wrong to find a previous saved version.

So what I would like to know if the following is possible.

If I open a new file and resync the two files, work out the timing difference between the camera and OBS footage, then go back to the messed up project, find in each sliced up clip the time stamp (is that what is called?) in the original file and then be able to adjust the OBS file clips (which is the screwed one) using the times I actually need.

Does this make any sense at all?

This is another video I have done to show what I am talking about:

I know if I had grouped the two tracks together at the start I would have seen when things were going out of synch, but I didn't.

This all happened when I distracted having learned a load of hot keys, including the Ctrl + L one.

But I think this is how I managed to delete one clip that has screwed the whole rest of it!

So now I just need some help to see if I can salvage this mess.

I don't want to start again, as this edit took a whole day and the video footage is good as are all the markers.

If anyone can help or offer a solution, that would be amazing.

Thank you!

Jonny

I think this might partly be what I am talking about: https://creativecow.net/forums/thread/how-to-display-original-files-timecode-in-sony-veg/

I have worked it out thanks to this thread: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/using-source-timecode--117447/

This has told me how to put the timecode into the video:

To view time code on the timeline: Options / Preferences / Video / 'Show source frame number on event thumbnail as' = 'Timecode'. If the embedded camera timecode can be read, it will be displayed on the event thumbnail on the timeline.

You can also do this by frame number, which I have done.

I have therefore created a new vegas file with the two uncut videos synced up and I now know what frame of OBS should be under the video track.

So I can recut the OBS in the edited vegas file.

It will take a bit of time, but at least I can amend my stupid error!
