corrupted button images

Hey folks! Look at this ...
http://www.chienworks.com/media/weirdvegas4buttons.gif

I just installed the shipping release of Vegas 4 and all my buttons look weird. Everything works fine as long as i remember what shape more or less does what. I've uninstalled, deleted the program directory and the setup directory, and reinstalled. Oddly enough the same downloaded install file works fine on my other computer and the buttons look normal there. Weird.

Any ideas? Has anyone else seen this?

Hi K,

What's the color depth, etc. in the windoze display settings?

1280x1024 x 24 bit, ATI 32MB VIVO card. All buttons look fine in other software, including Vegas 3. The beta of Vegas 4 was fine too.

Hi K,

I fiddled with V4 to see if I could replicate the new look.

V4 definitely does not like having the color depth messed with AT ALL...

Switching back from 256 to 16bit I managed to blow-up V4 for the first time. Exception, stack-dump, the works... no BSOD but it shutdown Vegas.

WinME, PIII-750, 512MB, Sony Viao with Intel chipset.

V4 - Version 4.0 (Build 115)

(I'll send in the dump.)

I just tried switching to 16bit, 32bit, and back to 24. No change. No crash either. Oh well. I've lived with worse things in my life. ;)

You probabaly need to increase color depth the, to 16 or 32 bit I suppose.

I've seen similar things in other software and either it is a low system resources situration thing or a video card driver issue. I just cycled through my Maxtor GR550 and everything is fine at 16, 24 and 32 bit color depths and resolutions from as low as 800x600 to 1220x1024 which is as high as I go.

I had something similar, though not quite identical, to this when I upgraded from SF5 to SF6 - everything worked correctly but the images on most of the icons were corrupted.

It looked to me like a graphics driver issue so I checked to see if there was a later driver available for the card I was using at the time, a Diamond Viper V550, and found that there was. Installed the new driver and everything was as it should be.

I'd guess your problem has a something similar cause.

Only time I've seen similar is re: icon &/or Font size, & once with a fresh install of something or other to do with flash - can't remember what app - I had to reset the default font windows uses...

MarkWWW, that might be a good thing to look into. I also very recently upgraded from 98SE to XP Pro. I let XP install it's own default drivers for the ATI card. I'll check ATI's site and see if they have newer XP drivers.

Still seems strange though that this is only happening in Vegas 4 and not any other application. Go figger.

"I just installed the shipping release of Vegas 4..." Does that you've received the boxed version already?
Chienworks wrote on 2/15/2003, 2:13 PM
Jayglad, oops. Sorry to misdirect you. I mean "shipping release" as compared to the beta release.

Not a problem. Thanks for the clarification!

Is it still broken after a complete shut-down, restart of you machine?

Dennis: yep, still broken after several reboots and a complete uninstall/delete/reinstall. Everything functions fine, just looks ugly. All other programs look fine, including vidcap, and the same download (copied to CD-R) installed perfectly on my office computer with the buttons intact. I assume that means my download is intact so i haven't tried downloading it again.

Never mind! ;)

I just downloaded and installed ATI's XP driver and now the buttons are fine. *Sheesh* ATI even claims that Microsoft's version of the driver is absolutely identical except that it doesn't include OpenGL support, which their own driver does. Are the buttons drawn in OpenGL? Now that would be weird ;)
