I was editing my project (Vegas 5.0b), happy as a clam, frequently saving. Rendered to a .avi file, looked good. Closed Vegas, made test DVD, all was well. Re-opened project, and much to my horror, a bunch of my events now were pointing to the wrong AVI files!
All my files are on my internal drive. (No firewire.) I look on the timeline, and the event is labeled "S20040804-01-Clip 001", which is correct. That clip is in the media pool. I can look at the clip in explorer and in the media pool (preview mode) and it is correct. However, in the timeline, it is showing what's in D20040723-01-Clip 001. If I select the option to "Open in trimmer", it opens "D20040723-01-Clip 001.avi", which is the wrong clip. (Note that I do use events from D20040723-01-Clip 001.avi elsewhere in the project.)
If I open Edit Details, the Active Take Name for the event is correct, but the File Path and Tape Name point to the wrong file. Now, if I manually edit the File Path, and point it to the correct file, it automatically changes the tape name to the proper name, and the event on the timeline then shows the proper stuff. I can do this to each event that is pointing to the wrong file, and it fixes it.
If I just save the project and re-open it, it comes back with the wrong stuff again. If I do Save As (after fixing everything), close Vegas, and then open the new project file, it is correct. So, I have a work-around, I guess.
It's very disconcerting, though. V5 seems less stable. I've had several lockups when using my ShuttlePro to scrub either the timeline or the trimmer at high-speed while previewing out the firewire.
