Could someone summarize the different versions?

I've been on Vegas since version 3. I skipped 4, seem to recall that v5 introduced a better color correction model (the 3 wheels), I think v6 brought in HDV compatibility. I'm now on v7d, which does the job I need and is blessed with rock-solid stability.

Could others spell out the major changes brought about with all the versions? Maybe I'm missing something important by standing pat.

If your current version does all you want, why change?

The release notes associated with each version will tell you what has changed.

The release notes go into some detail. I was just looking for a generalized view, for example, I think v8 was the first to offer AVCHD, wasn't it?

The release notes are just an overview of the major changes for each new release and update and don't go into much detail at all.

Notable Fixes/Changes in Version 7.0e
Added support for editing files recorded with Sony AVCHD camcorders.

However, what the release notes DON'T say for version 9d,
"Removed smart rendering of AVCHD because it had problems".
