This afternoon I dl'd CDA 5.0 and installed without problem. Issues I encountered were a lock-up when for the first time trying to enter CDA after previously saving a project and some Waves plugs. Can't repeat the issue so I'll keep an eye out for it. Also, under 98SE as I am, I get an odd graphic representation of time remaining while burning (to a Yamaha 400ATX). Initially I'm told that the burn is at 0.1X and will take till Christmas. Meanwhile the burning process cheerfully continues in complete indifference to the display. It finally catches up with itself and all is well. Rather fun, but probably needs fixing.
I really want to thank Dennis et al for listening and putting a really good gapping system in CDA5.0. This appears to be more of an issue for me than others as I work with a really fussy producer who likes to see everything that's going on. I still think that having the gaps visually in the track list is an option but I'm much happier than I was.
Now a question of philosophy if anyone can bare with me. At first during the beta-testing I could not see the point of FX being available in CDA. I tend to have a file of un-mixed Sonar tracks, a file of mixed un-mastered tracks, a file of destructively mastered tracks (using individual SF plug-in chains), and CDA open, at once. Towards the end of a project I flit between these stages making final adjustments to bass etc before calling it a day.
Now I see the potential of removing a step. Taking the mixed, un-mastered songs, calling them up in CDA and applying the plug-in chains at this stage. This I have tried but on my 800mhz machine I quickly (after 2 or 3 songs) run out of grunt. If I had a 2gig machine I would probably run out of grunt after 4 or 5 tracks, no? If there was some way of the chains turning on or off as the requisite track kicked-in, then this would be a truly great thing - or have I missed something?
Thanks all
