couple of ideas

i think it would be great to have a number of different ruler settings and levels .

the first thing is obviously movable tempo (as has been mentioned a heap of times already in this forum) .

Secondly i would like to be able to unlock the ruler grid and slide the gridlines around, relock them and copy and paste the new groove i have made. This is for when I’m working with samples and loops (especially live drum samples) this would allow me to map the original groove of the drummer and then have a grid to snap to. Possibly several different grooves during one song, hence the copying and pasting of the ruler maps.

maybe a couple of different swing settings for the ruler and could there be a setting to keep the increments regular while zooming in and out (like the pro tools ruler)

a spectrum analyzer

a pink noise generator plug-in for eqing and tuning speakers in new control rooms and setting up reverb gain structures etc

Ability to play the entire mix (or selected tracks) backwards while changing eqs and compressors

a fast forward button on the CD previewer and ability to select random tracks and play them all consecutively (i often use the Vegas cd preview to play cds to people because all the other ones are so crap ) in fact just making a sonic foundry cd player would be good.

midi, rewire and vst support would definately put Vegas out in front of cubase and logic etc (in my opinion) and if Sony start developing some matched hardware (pre amps & inputs like the mbox) then it would also give pro tools a run for its money.

more colors on the tracks ( i don't know why you ever reduced the amount)

anyway Vegas is already a fantastic piece of software. good work.
p.s. any idea of when we might see Vegas 5

Hi
ideas not for Vegas 5 but maybe later versions.
Actually I was quite happy when I read a reply from Sony/sonicfoundry that said that Vegas was not a midiVSTmusic software. Vegas is a Sound-for Picture recording, editing and mixing and mastering software. And a very good one I think. My POV is forget about the Midi and music sequencing. I mean Cubase and logic are brilliant programs for that. I think try to take a diifferent view on the next versions. Try to split up sound-for-picture into the different tasks.Tools for ADR for example could be:monitor Cuebeeps for the actor, Cuelines in the picture, The actual phrase written in the picture. Database with markers and scripting.
Tools for Foley recording could be:Database with markers and scripting. cue in the picture(visually splitting 1 second into fourth is a big help for the artist. 1 second is to long and timecode is to short). FX/background tools could be Database search and spot to tracks like Mtools. Dialogeditingtools is good acces to alternative takes. easy automation of equiing and good editing tools but they are there already.
Mixing is Hardwarecontrol, good monitorsection where you can choose to listen to about everything. good and easy surroundpanning. and of course again quick and easy automation.
At last I will repeat keep focused on the Sound-for Picture aspect.

My few cents best wishes chris
