CPU render Boost Tip

This is a tip for those whom might not of known already

If you have Windows XP yu can increase your CPU usuage or shorten your render time by adjusting your process priorty.

Start Vegas rendering
press CTRL+ALT+DEL
select Processes tab
find Vegas and right click on it
set priorty to REALTIME ( if vegas crashes then try HIGH instead)

What happens is more CPU power is directed to Vegas and everything else slows down.

That's it. You don't need to do much more than this. Don't tamper withit too much it will just make your system unstable. XP dosen't remeber these settings so you almost have to redo this every time.

If you have multiple processors, you can also assign affinity. For example if you were running both Procoder and Vegas with frameserver. Assign Procoder to cpu 1 and Vegas to CPU 0. or even better if hyper thread is active assign the little background programs like SCHost to cpu 2 or 3 leaving more room on the main processor for Vegas calculations.

Hope this helps someone

Note that this only works when multitasking. If the only thing your PC is doing is rendering, this won't result in any speedup. Actually, that's why I DON'T use this technique; when I'm AT the PC, I want it to be responsive to ME and rendering is in the background. When I'm away from it, the process priority doesn't matter anyway.
