CPU Usage

Have a project rendering for DVDA.
Notice CPU usage is running between 50-60%.
Happily munching away like a contented cow grazing in a pasture.
Was monitoring task manager during render to mpeg2 in Vegas and CPU usage was touching 100% at times and even crashing.
Tearing away like a ravenous lion ripping into the carcus of a water buffalo refusing to let go of life!
Why the big difference?
No doubt a stupid question for many on this forum.

It's supposed to be 50 to 100%, mostly pegging 100%. Not to worry.

And the water buffalo would already be dead. Lions kill their prey first.

You may be thinking of the velociraptor.

Your CPU should be running like a pack of wolves circling a caribou.

Whether it hits 100% or not is a function of what the limiting process is. If it's running at 50%, then I would guess that hard drive I/O is the bottleneck. For mpeg2 rendering, then it would be running at 100%, implying that there is a lot of processing inside the frames, rather than just moving frames to and from the disk.

Kinda like a croc dragging a wildebeast under the water.
