Craftech:Question about duplicators

Craftech,

I saw the information you provided about the CoolCopy duplicator system.

I was hoping I could ask a few questions since I can't seem to find the information on their site. Thanks for your time.

1) If you use the 7 drive system, does that mean you burn 6 at a time or does is use a cache to read from.

2) It appears you do not need a computer for operation, is that correct?

3) The website mentions a USB port, is that for the read drive or extra drives?

Thanks again for your time.

I think I can help since I answered most of his questions before :)

1) If you use the 7 drive system, does that mean you burn 6 at a time or does is use a cache to read from.
You buy a 9-bay tower...one bay is filled with the controller card and one is filled with the source DVD-ROM drive. Then you have 7 bays left for the DVD Burners so you can burn 7 discs at a time. If you also install a hard drive then you can do 8 discs at a time you just have to read the image to the hard drive first before burning and you would use a DVD burner for the source drive instead of a DVD-ROM drive.

2) It appears you do not need a computer for operation, is that correct?
That is correct...no computer is needed.

3) The website mentions a USB port, is that for the read drive or extra drives?

I'm not positive on this one....I've always wondered why some have USB ports as well. I never ordered the USB option so I can't even plug it into a computer to see what happens. Maybe on the next round of towers I order I will do that and try to figure out what it is for...maybe a USB hard drive??? Who knows.

I was looking at the control box that has a 7 drive capacity.
(the CoolCopy 7)

So it sounds like with this drive, you use one as play (or a harddrive) and have six to burn.

Thanks for your other answers and please correct me if I am wrong on this issue.

I really appreciate the information.

No..there are 7 IDE ports for the recorder drives and then another IDE port that you can have 2 devices attached to....so you can have a source DVD drive and a Hard drive attached to that. So in total there are 8 IDE ports on the card and the master port you can attach 2 devices.

I see Jason beat me to it. Jason was the one who helped me when I built mine.

I used one of the eight NEC 3520A burners as the source drive and thus was able to burn eight at a time from the hard drive.
Don't forget the controller will only partition in 5GB partitions and you can only store ONE FILE - UP TO 4.7GB on it. If you have a 20MB file you can still only put ONE on a partition. You need a pretty good size hard drive if you want to store several CDs or DVDs on it. Mine is 120GB with room for 24 files.

Don't forget to switch the power supply in the back of the case to 110v when you get it. PLace the controller in the center bay and put four burners above it and four burners below it. The supplied cables will work out better that way. The case comes with two fans pre-installed.

The USB port by the way is SUPPOSED to allow the duplicator to be used as an external writer for the PC. I haven't tried it nor do I intend to.
