Crash on Capture

I've been running 8.0b and last captured DV footage without problems from a VX1000 camcorder and HDV from a new Sony HVR-M15AU.

Yesterday, I tried to capture some new DV stuff and the computer crashed and restarted every time I tried, using either device. Just before it restarts, I see a message inside the Vegas video monitor window that says something like "Due to limitations of your video display device, you . . ." something about using a different window. Also the shuttle controls are all greyed out. But before i can do much of anything, the screen goes black and the machie restarts.

I installed 8.0c, but the problem persists.

I have a 2.4 GHz Core2 Duo, SP3, Win XP, a Matrox Parahelia APVe connected to 2 flat panels, lots of disk and RAM. I used this machine previously to do a big project and it worked fine. I can't recall doing anything to change the system.

Help, please

Oops. sorry about the typo. I'm using a Sony VX1000, an early DV camcorder.

Fixed the typo in the message.

I disconnected the M15, connected the VX1000, went through making sure Vegas saw the 1000, and it captured fine. I also kept the vidcap playback window on my #1 monitor, just to elimainate monitor problems.

Made it work in Vegas 7. Realized when I have the m15 connected, Vidcap doesn't show it in its "Video" menu. It only shows "Matrox . . ." I'd thought that since vidcap sees my camcorder via the "Microsoft DV camera and VCR" it would also see the M15. But it doesn't.

also V 8 doesn't offer a "None" parameter when selecting the "Preview Device". V 7 does.

I think the conection to the M15 is a separate issue from the odd erroro message about how it can't use my Monitor 2.

Can I hope that my new Sony XR500V will still be producing video in 2020 or 2025? -- That VX1000 has traveled a long road. Glad you got everything going.

RE; Glad you got everything going.

Sort of got things going. had to go back to an old version of vegas and can't use the hot new deck I just bought, and I'm still not sure what happened.

Could there be a DRIVER I need for the M15? why doesn't vidcap see it?
