crash when opening ANY veg file

This one really scares me. I was playing back a project in veg video 3.0. While the playback was happening, a plug got pulled from computer audio-out to my console. I stopped the playback, but after I plugged the cable back in I saw the playback cursor was flashing but "frozen". No waiting or button pushing would enable playback. I tried to save the project but the program seemed locked up. I finally closed the program expecting a "save" opportunity, or at least an "auto-save". When I re-opened the program it now crashes immediatley when trying to open ANY veg. file. It also crashes if I attempt to save anything. I'm looking pretty bad here. Can anyone help?

More on above...the program will not Play any file, veg. or wav. It gives an error message:
Exception 0xC00000005 access violation...thread GUI ID=0x428 etc...and so forth.

Did I kill my program? Can I re-install without losing my current files?

Hi Charles,

Yeah... it doesn't sound good.

Do your wav files play in another player (to verify they are intact)?

Does windoze explorer find your files OK (to verify the basic registry is OK)?

Have you used any windoze utilities like Norton WIndoze DR?

I have not reinstallled Vegas, but I *think* you can reinstall without losing your data files ( you should backup your .veg files) - your presets may get blown away, unless you can somehow save a veg file with all of them in use.

I think you got a static discharge onto your hard disk.

Do a scan disk and repair.

Re-install Vegas. You will not lose your project files.

If it's works, thanks God.

If not, suggest that you back up your data and reformat your hard disk and do a
fresh setup.
