Crash when trying to load mpg file created by Vegas?

Is there any reason why both Vegas 4 and DVDA would crash as soon as an MPG file is selected?

The file was rendered from Vegas 4 as a DVDA NTSC stream and there is an accompanying ac3 file. In either Vegas or DVDA the program crashes as soon as I select the file in either the explorer window or the file open or insert media windows.

I'd have to say start suspecting something odd in the PC, maybe the MC codec has been corrupted.

Would reinstalling Vegas fix the codec?

A re-install is certainly worth a try. I'd also try re-rendering the file if you can on the chance that you have a corrupted file. And I agree with farss, this might indicate some sort of hardware issue with your machine - a problem with memory possibly.

Another thing to try would be to see what happens if you play the file back via Windows Media Player.

I tried to run one of the files by browsing to it in explorer and double-clicking. WMP opened but I then both WMP and Windows Explorer crashed.

I tired on another computer, opening over the LAN, and I got a Visual C++ error such as the ones I've described in another thread.

I'll try reinstalling Vegas and DVDA, I haven't done the "Sony" branded versions yet, then re-rendering. I solved the immediate problem by rendering as an AVI and importing into DVDA in that format. I do the DVDA work on another machine, though, and it's the slower of the two (550Mhz) producing some pretty long render times so I'll want to get this resolved eventually.

Thanks...
