Crashes, Freezes, So Long Vegas 9, I Give Up

I have done everything possible to work with this program and have been using sony editing software for over 8 years but I am finally going to give up and buy something else.
I can't stand the crashes, freezes and problems since getting my new pc built for editing and running Vista. I have the power, speed, RAM and HD to handle it all but it will not work properly.
When I was using my old PC with XP on it and V8 it did fine, no problems. Now with the new PC running Vista and the V9 Plat. is AWFUL.
I don't care what Sony says this program is NOT compatable with VISTA. I have had tech support work on it and other PC knowledgeable people and no one can tell me what is making this happen.
Sony support STINKS after all the money I have spent with them over the years not only in software but all my cameras, PCs, TVs and DVD players. I just want to do my editing with nice effects and have the program work. I don't want a program that does it all for me, I want to do it myself. I am over this, good bye Sony.......................

Sorry that you sound so definitely disillusioned with VMSP.
If you are still monitoring this forum, just give one final try and disable your anti virus software when running VMS. I have Trend Micro Internet Security Pro and it is a very aggressive program. Anything that has even the slightest indication of suspect activity is slowed down or stopped.
After disabling Trend, most aspects of VMS are more responsive, the preview is no longer "jumpy" and the program doesn't "hang".
If you do this, make sure you are not accessing the Internet while your anti virus program is disabled.
Hope it works for you.

Thanks for your suggestion but my anti-virus comes from my ISP and I don't think I can shut it off.
I was using the V9 again yesterday and it froze 3 times. I also have noticed that I have a ton of SKF files and looked them up to find out what they are. I still do not understand how they are created as I don't have Sound Forge.
I wish this program would work and can't understand why the V8 running XP was great and now that I have Vista and using V9 it has been nothing but problems.
I am searching for a program that is similar, any suggestions?

Just a suggestion....
If your V89 was working so well, couldn't you go back to that and see if it works okay with Vista?

I had a lot of problems with my system until I turned everything else off.

Hi, Retdon - Vegas V9 Platinum is the 1st version for me, installed in Dec '08, and it runs just fine on Vista Home Premium SP1 on a Gateway laptop with a 2GHz dual-core cpu, 2MB mem, 160GB HD. There has been only one quirck that started, I think when I "activated" Cinescore or when some Yahoo toolbars got installed in my browser, and that is Vegas's intro screen, which has a progress bar, and above it displays (one-at-a-time) the names of the items it's initializing...it "pauses" (as opposed to freezing/locking up) on the first item. I first thought it was simply locking-up. I discovered a work-around...if I move the mouse pointer over it back-and-forth it progresses through all items...-OR-...if I click the Windows START button to display the START menu, it progresses. Very weird behavior, and my WinXP PC w/V9 does not do this. But I can't be sure if it's Vista-related.

I read a forum somewhere (heck, maybe here) that a person had Vista on 3 PC's. The 1st two Vista worked great on (whether upgraded or not I don't recall). He bought a 3rd (different brand), and had nothing but trouble. This lends some credence to Vista being weird in itself, but I personally know only 1 other person who has it.

Sorry you're having so much trouble - just letting you know if V9 were truly not compatible with Vista I would think everyone would have trouble - on the other hand, PC's can drive you nuts with their inconsistencies.

Hi Dave, Sony is telling me again to uninstall and reinstall but they want me to go into the registry and uninstall some files there. I have been told by 2 different computer people not to touch the registry. They said that is what messed this new computer up the first time (before I have the hd wiped clean and reinstalled).
I know my pc is not the problem I have 4GhZ, quad core, 4 Gb mem, and 650Gb hd. I never had a problem with XP and SMS v8. I only upgraded to v9 because Sony said it was compatable with Vista and v8 was not.
I have corrupt files, well I have read eveything I can find on the web about them and still don't know a lot but do know that could be the problem and it was caused by SVMS.
I am now considering buying a program called WindowsRepairKit.com, which claims to repair the "corrupt:" files. All I want is to do my DVD with SVMS.
I also downloaded a trial version of Pinnacle 12 and so far it is running great, just a little to simple for me. They have a higher grade program that I may end up buying if Sony does not step up to the plate and fix mine. I want to see how the Pinnacle does in burning, etc. before I buy. I like their effects, and texts, transitions are like all of Sony's. I really hate to loose my SMS but when it won't run, it is not usable.
Below is the last error message I got and Sony says it is a .dll file problem, any ideas will be helpful..... Linda

Hi retdon,
Can u please recommend another software (that works) to make my movie. I have used over 2 months on this project, now i am so anrgy on my VMS9.. It just crashes....
Why do they sell this when so many people have problems??
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT SONY!!!

I GIVE UP!!!

I have downloaded a trial of Pinnacle 12 and so far so good. It is more of a "let me do it for you" program, not as technical as SVMS. Pinnacle has an higher level version, Pinnacle Studio Ultimate V12 which cost more and that is probably the one I will buy.
Gooogle Pinnacle Studio, or go to their site and watch the tutorial videos which explain fully the program and how to use it. It does have limitations such as only one video timeline, but you can use 2 different views, storybook or time line.
I also looked into their forum and FAQ and they do address crashes and problems which Sony does not even talk about in theirs.

I think of lot of problems novice or beginners have is their PC does not have the power, RAM or video card capabilities to handle everything needed to edit, render(uses a huge amount of everything) and burn DVDs. Render is the place you will really see how your PC performs as it is "pulling" eveything you have done (transitions, audio, effects, texts, video) into one file to make your movie. Hope this has helped. I am really sorry to leave SVMS, I like and know the program like the back of my hand but I can't deal with the lack of support and problems with it and Vista.
