Crashing

John-Bamberger wrote on 9/21/2025, 4:28 PM

My PC has crashed probably 8-9 times today while editing. I have one of the best PCs that money can buy, yet I still crash almost everytime I load up Vegas. What's the issue? This happened often when I had Vegas 21, so I got Vegas 23 thinking maybe it's because it was older, but it still crashes way too frequently. I get several error codes including "HYPERVISION___" and "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E)" I desperately need a fix for this, also it's not to mention just how slow my Vegas is when it isn't crashing. When there's a lot of things on the timeline, it gets very slow. Also not as important but the speech to text captions, when there's a lot of them, they are out of place when Vegas first puts them in the timeline. Looking for any and all fixes. Thank you!!!!

Did you Google those error messages?

I get several error codes including "HYPERVISION___

Google -

A HYPERVISOR_ERROR is a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) in Windows, indicating a fatal error within the Windows hypervisor, which manages virtual machines. Common causes include outdated drivers, incorrect BIOS/UEFI settings (especially for Intel VTX or AMD-V), corrupted system files, or hardware issues. To fix it, ensure virtualization is enabled in your BIOS/UEFI, update drivers, check Windows updates, verify system file integrity with sfc /scannow and DISM, and potentially disable or re-enable the Hyper-V feature in Windows Features

------------------

" and "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E)"

Google -

The KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error, which causes a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an error that wasn't caught by the system. This often points to a faulty driver, malfunctioning hardware (like RAM or graphics card), or corrupted system files. Common solutions include updating or rolling back drivers, running the System File Checker (SFC) scan, checking for Windows updates, and testing your RAM

Have you tried any diagnostics on the PC, like the ones Gid cited?

How do I figure out if I have corrupt files?

To use sfc, you have to go to the Windows search at the lower left of your Task Bar.

Type in cmd and when the Command Prompt appears, right mouse click on it and select from the drop down menu, Run as Administrator.

Once it is running, at the prompt, type in sfc /scannow. You can copy/paste it.

Let it run. If it runs into any issues, it should automatically fix them. Then you get a report when it is finished. On your computer, it should take maybe a minute.

Here is the report from my computer.

In theory I should be good now right??

John-Bamberger wrote on 9/22/2025, 9:19 AM

since doing this, my pc has crashed once and vegas has crashed 3 times!!! this should not be a problem, im so confused. im literally trying to render a 10 second clip, and it's crashing everytime. does this mean its a hardware issue???

RogerS wrote on 9/22/2025, 9:25 AM

The scan seems to have worked which is good. You then restarted the computer?

For the recent crashes are there any clues (error message, etc.?) If not can you type reliability history into the Windows search bar and see if there are any recent "critical events"? If so please share what they say- sometimes it will show a driver or other cause.

The Intel 14th generation i9s had issues with stability. Did you install the latest bios for your motherboard? It may resolve issues with the CPU.

Is this a computer you built or is there a manufacturer you could also ask for support?

Can it do a stress test like Intel Extreme Tuning (say 5 minutes) without a crash? https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/17881/intel-extreme-tuning-utility-intel-xtu.html

John-Bamberger wrote on 9/22/2025, 9:45 AM

I've ran stress tests on both the CPU and GPU, both are fine. Here's the reliablity history, in terms of error codes, it's several different ones that I keep getting, HYPERVISION, KMODE_EXCEPTION, etc... I can't name them off the top of my head but there are a few more. also here's what these crashes entail on the reliability history

John-Bamberger wrote on 9/22/2025, 9:45 AM

Also it is prebuilt from NZXT but I picked the parts.

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/22/2025, 10:16 AM

John, Roger is right about the instability of the Intel i9 14/13900 series CPU, you need to check the bios version of your mother board - the latest is Ver 3001 dated 19th May 2025. It is specifically to address these CPU instability issues. You have a number of random system failures in addition to Vegas shutdowns. The i9-14900 series is even more prone than the 13900 due to it's higher boost speed. You can check the Bios via the free CPUZ utility via the mother board tab.

So what specifically do I need to do?

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/22/2025, 10:31 AM

1). Download CPUZ and check the bios in the motherboard Page, see below:

2). Post back here and we can determine the next step

OK, you have none of the Bios updates that were issued this year relating to the stability fix issued by Intel.

Have you ever updated the Bios on a mother board before?

The options are:

1) Do it yourself

2) Contact your PC retailer where you bought the PC

3) Take it to a local PC repair shop

4) Get a local friend who is PC competent to do it for you.

I don't believe so no.

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/22/2025, 10:49 AM

To do it your self it involves the following:

1) Downloading the bios to a blank USB Stick

2) Going into your motherboard's Bios

3) Running the Bios update utility

4) Updating the Bios from the USB stick

5) going back into the bios and checking the settings are correct.

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/22/2025, 10:55 AM

you are going to need to get it done other wise you may have trouble getting a replacement CPU if yours fails. Intel have extended the warranty to five years as a result of CPU failures. They will require you to return the failed CPU for exchange.

John-Bamberger wrote on 9/22/2025, 10:57 AM

let me know about the video above, im a visual learner haha

Yes that is the process, the MB is a bit older than yours so the flash utility maybe slightly different but basically the same process. It will reset the MB to default settings so you need to know the current settings before you do it.

Also if you were to do it make sure you have a wired key board and mouse to make it easier. Do not do it with a blutooth keyboard/mouse as the Blutooth settings load with windows so the keyboard/mouse will not work in the Bios.
