Crashing after upgrading from 14 to 17

kyle-pitts wrote on 9/10/2020, 7:50 AM

So, I hesitantly upgraded from 14 to 17 yesterday. I've been using Movie studio for many years and it's been great. I uninstalled 14, got 17 installed and it's just been crap. I mean it lags, locks up, previews are choppy, if I have audio over video or pip setup with audio then audio is choppy. So I rolled back to 14 and it just errors now with an ntdll.dll error at start and crashes.

I need help either 17 needs to work or I need to roll back to a working 14.

System Specs

  • Windows 10 64bit Enterprise
  • Intel i7-6700k Processor 4.00ghz
  • 32gb ram
  • GTX 1660 card
  • Dedicated 250GB SSD installation

I'm using MP4's which apparently I see alot of issues with around the forum, not sure why as that's an extremely common file type to be editing & making. So I'm not sure why magix would add that to the deprecated list. I've also setup movie studio to use the dedicate gpu in the nvidia control panel.

Mostly the case if in that Mp4 is een not supported codec or a supported codec thas has very different framerates inside it.

So I'm not sure why magix would add that to the deprecated list.

What is meant with "that"?

In the initial release of VMS 17, we had some issues with handling of MP4 files. The solution for that was to turn off Hardware Decoding. These problems, however, should be resolved with the update which we released this week.

So the question to @kyle-pitts to remain is: Which build of VMS 17 do you use?

would the link sent to me be the latest or just the original base?

For both goto the menu help and click for the buildnumber now installed at "About..."

and for looking for a possible update goto "Check for Software Updates..."

I just updated from 14 to 17 also, I am working with mp4's also and i am having trouble with it locking up and the viewing screen goes black very often. I am also monitoring how much CPU i am using from Task Master and it is usually below 20%. I have the latest update and I don't know what to do either. Thank you
