Crashing with SD-DV

I have been reading a variety of people that seem to have crashing to desktop when working or rendering with HDV material. I am using regular standard definition camcorder material., and I am having multiple crashes to the desktop during each render. It has gotten so bad I can't even render my 12 minute piece I have been working on without a crash.
The real problem I have is since I don't see anybody else having this (what I consider major) problem, which makes me worried is it my system, or is it the software. I just build this computer last July with q6600 and 4 gigs mem GTX8800 display card , Vista Ultimate and 2 monitors.
I can run Microsoft flight simulator X a very intense app, without a single crash for hours.

Is anybody else seeing this random crash to desktop using SD video??

Hi Ted,

Is it DV that you capture off a tape as AVI's or is it mpeg2 files from a haddrive camera f.ex. you are having problems with. What are you trying to render to?

Assuming you are talking about Vegas 8 Pro. I get random crashes when running in 32bit mode - this is anything from adding a .jpg to the timeline, using the ProType titler or even just switching from 8bit mode to 32bit mode. 98%+ guaranteed to crash during render, usually at the first frame or within the first minute. No issues sofar in 8bit mode, but that's not really what I am using the trial for.

I edited a couple of projects recently in standard def in VP8 in 32bit mode and not a single issue. I still wonder though if it isn't an issue with Intel CPU's since most of the crashes I have seen pop up here on the forums are related to the quad core Intel chips. I'm using a dual core AMD and it has been rock solid so far.

The files I use are all MPG files (no AVI). Seems like I'm having similar problems as Xander, but I am running 8 bits?
I watched it jump to the desktop as it was rendering going from a video clip to a jpg photo. Ioaded up the program again, then tried to highlite the selected area, and as I was doing that, it crashed to desktop seemingly as I selected the transition??

Blu may be right, could be a CPU issue. I just don't see enough people having this problem
I'll keep pulling my hair (what little is left) out.

My laptop has an AMD Athlon SingleCore Prcoessor (2GHz) and my desktop PC has an Intel Pentium 840D DualCore Processor (3.2GHz). Both experience crashing in 32bit mode using Vegas 8 Pro. 8bit mode is stable. Vegas 7e is rock solid on both platforms. I think 32bit mode is just unstable at present - being a very new feature and big change to the Vegas platform.

As far as I know I am running at 8 bit. But just to be safe where do I check this to make sure?

(Not be confused with the OS, Vista, which is running 32bit)

Project properties - there is a n option for 8bit or 32bit mode.

Yep, I'm running 8 bit :(

I'm running 8 bit with MPG2's directly off a SONY CX7's memory stick pro duo. I get random crashes when just importing the files. Vegas hangs and then dies. No problems editing the HD *.mts files from the CX7, so I'm thinking it's a file handing problem (plus, there's no audio when I try to import MPG2 files - you can play them in Windows Media Player, but V8P just kinda blinks, and then crashes).

I Must then have a dream system then. I haven't had a single crash from VP8 and I have edited two small standard def projects with it already.

I looked at this in some more detail last night... I was able to consistently make the program crash during a render. It happened in a section where it went from a video clip to a jpg picture. It appeared to freeze on the last frame of the video and then boom, crashed to desktop. I did this at least 10 times, to see if I could figuer out exactly what is going on. Then I moved the picture and video clip and made a fade instead of a straight cut, re-rendered and voila no crash????
