Create Blu-Ray AVCHD Disks

Hi gang, I'm in learning mode and need help. I've done a lot of research but I'm hung up on one issue.

I'm looking at using a Sony HDR-SR12 Camera. I want to edit my videos on my computer and I'm familiar with VMSP8.0 wrt SD video. However, once I edit & render my video in AVCHD format, what "external" drive can I use to create the Blu-Ray compatible disc, ie BD-R, etc disc?

VMSP8 does not export in AVCHD, so I am not sure how you will be able to export in AVCHD format...

You might want to check this out instead:

Thanks, Eugenia, I've previously checked out some of your work and I've read a couple of your blogs.

I'm beginning to understand. My understanding is that VMSP8 will read the AVCHD files and allow them to be edited, however, what is the best output I can achieve from VMSP8, SD? HDV?

My limited experience is creating videos using my old VHS camcorder in SD and I'm on a learning kick into HD and the different formats. Anything you (or anyone else) can offer will be helpful.

Before anyone can give you definitive answer, we would need to know more info.

What will the final output viewed on: PC or TV or HDTV?
Do you have a Blueray burner and player? or just standard DVD burner and player?

As for the subject of this thread, VMS8 doesn't burn Blueray, but V9 which will be released very soon does. However I have no idea if V9 supports Blueray AVCHD format on standard red laser discs.

ggrussell, thanks,

My intent is to create movie DVD's to be played on an HDTV (1080p). If required, within the overall plan is to purchase a Blu-Ray DVD player for the HDTV.

So I trying to understand the process of creating:
1) HD movie, or
2) a Blu-Ray compatible disk.

So now I come to a couple of conclusions:
1) VMSP8 cannot create Blu-Ray, what about HDV quality?
2) I'm looking for recommendations for a Blu-Ray burner as I currently only have a standard DVD burner (LG GSA-E60L).
3) I will most likely need to upgrade to VMSP9.

Again, thanks for the reply.
