Creating a Timelapse in Vegas

Hi there:

So I am planning on upgrading within the next couple months to vegas 8 because I believe my 6.0 is a little outdated...lol...

Question: Right now in 6.0 when I want to create a timelapse I can only speed up a clip by a certain amount therefore if I have a clip that is an hour long I would have to speed it up which would make it only about 20 min long (I don't remember what the exact numbers were) THEN I would render it, THEN import the rendered copy and speed it up again...then render it and then import it again.....etc....which is really quite annoying and I have got to think degrades the quality a little bit. When I upgrade...will there still be the same problem? Is this problem that I am having unique with vegas 6.0 or was that always the case with it?

Thanks!!!

Adam

I think you can grab the right edge with "Control" and slooowww the clip down, and then right click and add a "Velocity" envelope to the event. As I recall this will pull the event down 12x between the two. HTH, memory serving and all. Happy New Year!

But isn't "time lapse" speeding up a clip, not slowing it down?

Mmmmm........ Not exactly, what you're doing is taking a long time (say 1 hour) and compressing it into a shorter time-frame (say 5 minutes), so you're kind of slowing time down.

Actually, no, you're right. You are speeding it up - getting through an hour realtime in only 5 minutes playback time.

A] Flower Growing = 1 frame every 10 minutes = Time Lapse = Speed-up to see plant growth.

B] Bullet Leaving Gun Barrel = 100,000 frames per second = High Frame Rate = Use Slow-mo to see bullet leaving muzzle.

What IS the problem here?

( dunno about 100k frames a second! - but you get the idea)
