creating a vcd w/vv4

Can someone throw out a clue to new user of VV here? I finished editing a short project and stumbled my way through VV4 suprisingly well. I rendered the project succesfully to an avi file and then tried to do a vcd following the manuals directions (i think). I used the Burn CD and Video CD selections under the tools menu. I noticed that this created a mpeg1 rendering of my project. My cd burner spun up and a few folders were created on the cd-r media. Some of these contain files. None of them are auto-executable on the pc but more importantly on the first dvd player I tried to load the burned cd into it did not recognize nor play any content on the disk. What completely obvious "thing" am I missing here?

Thanks for any help

Ok, first off, a VCD isn't able to be auto played on your computer. Somewhere in a folder on the CD is the mpeg files, but with a DAT extension. You can play those in media player fine.

2) Not all DVD players play VCD's. Check your DVD documentation to make sure.

Also, I'd recomend SVCD instead. It's a higher quality (in both bitrate and resolution) but is only about 30 minutes per cd. I usually use Nero to make my SVCD's. It has chapter ability for VCD/SVCD which is nice. Actuatly, the ability is in nero vision express, but that's free with nero. :)

Thanks for the clue! I figured the vcd would not auto execute on the pc and I have not checked the specs on the DVD player yet, but now seems obvious that vcg is not supported. On the SVCD suggestion, I'm assuming VV4 is not able to burn SVCD I would like to explore "nero" I am thinking that NERO uses a file rendered by Vegas to mpeg1 and allows you to burn it to cd in the SVCD format? COuld you give me a link to more info on Nero?

Thanks for the response,

by the way most of my projects run under 10 minutes.

Hi cbg,

Look up your DVD player on www.dvdrhelp.com. You may find that it will play VCD if you use the correct media - many people have found that CD-RW works better than CD-R (something to do with DVD laser being able to 'see' CD-RW better)

Cheers,

Scott

V4 can render a SVCD compliant mpeg-2. Goto www.nero.com to get more nero info. Check out half.com to nero at a discounted price. You can also burn a plain Video CD with nero. I've done both, and both work great!
