Creating Bespoke Video Factory Templates and Effects

Grazie wrote on 5/8/2002, 12:12 AM
Chienworks you gave me a clue…! “About the best you can do with Video Factory is to open up an existing .vf project file next time you want to start a new project, then replacing the media with new clips.”

Templates:

1. Make a new project and call it “Grazie’s Templates”
2. Create a series of the “framed” earthquake effects – say 10 in all, or whatever!
3. Leave “black” video frame spaces between each effect, to clearly separate “effects”
4. Place “Markers” to make reference/indexing more available for searching.
5. Name those markers – Grazie’s Earthquake 1; Grazie’s Earthquake 2; Grazie’s Earthquake 3…. Etc etc.
6. Save this VF “film” as what… AVI or what? Close film.
7. Open up new or previously produced film project
8. Import/open “Grazie’s Templates” into Media Pool
9. Drag this, “Grazie’s Templates”, into the Overlay track.
10. Select the “effect” one wants – search the markers - and subtract what one doesn’t want!
11. “Stretch” or “Squash” effect over the video in the video track to produce/achieve final result.
12. Potentially one could overlay and overlay and overlay template effects to experiment with more homegrown effects.
13. You can decide to have One Template file or have a series of VF Template files – all as mini film projects – lurking in a subdirectory

Creating & Preserving FX Effects:
I now see that one can create “chained” FX effects and save these in the FX selection menu. I can give it a name- “Grazie’s Pixels 1” and it will reside in that menu ready to be used in the future, in any VF project.

Question 1: Can I do this with “Chained” effects – Pan/Crop; Pinch ‘n Punch etc etc?
Question 2: Is there a way of combining “Templates and Creating & Preserving FX effects”?

I feel like we are onto something. What d’yer think?

Grazie

I think you are on to something. I LOVE the way you don't give up and are always thinking outside the box. You have a brilliant mind, Tarah.

Yo VinceG!

I can’t express how thankful I am for your invitation to come across form the “Dark Side”. VF truly has reawakened my love of film editing and reminded me of the vast possibilities in video work. Then there is audio!…..

Chienworks setting up the “Look what I’ve done!” website is starting to bring together, on a global network, the possibilities for the following. I’m sure many NLEers have thought of this, but thinking outside of the box again, why don’t we use this option for creating WebFilm productions?

The advances in broadband technology and its reduction in cost can now make it more and more available to more web-users [I’m still on a 56k modem, soon to take advantage of the ADSL service in my area].
We could set up say a team of 2,3, 4 or whatever members and work on a small time limited VidProj and allow people to adapt, amend and advance changes to a say 10 second movie and put this on display. Y’know like the Global Audio Jamming that I believe goes on.

Do you have experience of DSL, ADSL and Broadband video or audio in general? What do you think about a “play-area” for VFers?

Good to have you back again VinceG,

Grazie

Tarah-

That sounds like a terrific idea! I think it could work with just a handful of people to start out with. : )

I'm really not back per se... I just popped in the other night and saw where you mentioned my name and felt compelled to respond. That's how I am. ; ) My main forte is audio recording. I had put my audio studio on the backburner while I learned how to edit videos. I really have learned all that I need to know to do what I need to do in the video world. Vegas Video has been an important part of that.

Anyway, I am very busy with recording projects and giving my audio studio an upgrade. I'm having so much fun... so you probably won't be seeing me around these video editing forums that much... if at all as I have found a great audio forum that has caught my fancy. It's called VS-Planet and it's dedicated to users of Roland's VS series of DAWs (digital audio workstations). That's what I record on and I am currently upgrading my 8 track to an 18 track. I'm so excited about that... hehehe...

I am so happy to see all that you have accomplished since switching to Sonic Foundry. Can you believe that Tom Cooper and wrangler95 actually believe that VW is a stable editor that can compare to VF or VV? Talking about things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm...... LOL!

Take care Tarah. Feel free to email me if you ever need me.
Bye!
