Right click on the System Tray bar at the bottom of your screen. Start Task Manager. Click on the Processes Tab, and look for the File I/O manager in the list. Click on it, then right click and select End Process.

After than you should be able to start Vegas.

Excellent. Thanks Gary. What is the story with that?

Sony Vegas loads the file manager as a separate program that it makes use of. If Vegas crashes, in some cases the file manager is left running in memory. And if the file manager is already running when Vegas is launched, Vegas hangs up trying to load another copy of the file manager; which it can't do because it's already running. That's why you had kill the running file manager process, to let Vegas reload it at startup.

Killing a running process is something that you should only do if you're certain you know what you're doing. That said, it's also an easy way to close a program that freezes and can't be closed. In that case you should click on the Applications tab, Find the hung up program in the list. Right click on it and select "Go To Process". Then click on the Processes tab and click on the End Process Button at the bottom of the page.

Mine didn't work even after this. I reinstalled my AMD raedon 7600M to the latest windows 10 compatible 64 bit version. I removed my wondows 11 which started with this problem and installed newer version 13 afresh but still the same problem.. All this started after i Upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10...

my task manager task that you all have suggested to kill shows 32 bit in it's name where as everything else is 64 bit..i.e. vegas, windows, amd..all 64 bit...
