Creating mixed 704x480 and 720x480 DVD

I'm pretty sure the answer is "recompression", but I'm wondering if there is a way to create a mixed format DVD without having to recompress some mpeg files.

Some of the files are 720 x 480, and some are 704 x 480 from a desktop DVD recorder. I want to create DVDs from these with menus, but I know that generally the resolution of the DVD is set globally.

Is there a way around this?

Thanks in advance.

You can create multi-resolution and mult-aspect ratio discs (even discs with different audio formats) by using multiple VTS sets, one for each type of footage. Each set is created as its own project then linked together via a VMG menu.

There are limitations, you can't link from one VTS to another, they're considered separate entities, you have to link via the VMG menu. This is why on commercial DVDs you'll find that supplementary material is often under its own sub-menu.
