Creating MJPEG that will play back on Canon camera

I'd like to create an MJPEG .avi file that will play back on my Canon camera (a TX1 in my case) when I put it on an SD card and put it in the camera itself. Main idea is to leverage the TX1's ability to output 720p video to an actual TV.

Has anyone successfully done this?

Thus far I've attempted to recreate the MJPEG output settings as best as I can, using a Morgan MJPEG encoder and creating a "fake" ".thm" file that the camera uses. So far, no luck!

The .thm is probably a small jpg file. Rename your existing .thm file to jpeg to find out how big these are.

As for mjpeg, if your camera doesn't play the morgan mjpeg version, try installing the latest ffdshow-tryout version and export with it via vegas (can be found under the "custom" AVI, after you customize the ffdshow entry to spit out mjpeg). If your camera doesn't play that either, you are out of luck I guess. It's very difficult creating files that actually play on these digicams... I would suggest you buy a Sony PS3 or XBoX360 to playback HD files. The XBoX360 for $199 is a good deal for that purpose.

Thanks for the reply!

For the record if anyone looks at this in the future, I officially gave up. It seems that Canon has a sort of special index file that it uses to track what pictures and movies it has onboard to play. So, given that, I decided to not bother...
