That doesn't sound unreasonable since your computer is relatively slow by today's standards. However, you haven't given us many specifics though. How long is your video? If it's 2 hours long then i'd say 18 hours is very short. If it's 29 seconds then we may have some problems. What sort of editing have you done? Do you have any effects, crossfades, titles, overlays, transitions, brightness or color adjustments, etc.? Any of these things will slow down the rendering time significantly.

I was trying to convert a WMV file I made to DVD Mpeg-2 and it was estimated about 24 hours on my p3-667. I recomend you do what I did: render as much as you can at once, then cancel. Then, start the render where you left off, stop, etc. When you're all done, download TMPGenc and use it's mpeg-2 combine feature to make one big mpeg file out of the smaller ones. That helped me a lot!

The dual processor will not help with the rendering speed... but it will help you with the wait- search the internet while the rendering is chugging along. Your processor speed has alot to do with the rendering time. Generally, a standard video (cuts, dissolves and some effects) will take about 1.5 times real time to render MPG 2 using todays buss speeds of 533 / 800 and P4 2.8 to 3.06 processors, and faster Ram PC2700 - PC3500 with Low CAS latency-remeber your computer only runs as fast as it's "slowest link". On your system- any effects, especially gaussian blur will drastically increase your rendering time.
