Creating sub-clips?

Hi folks.

I've got VV 3.0 and I'm starting to do my first project on it and have a question.

I have many video clips, some of which are 1-2 minutes long that I would like to be able to create sub-clips of shorter bits (10-20 seconds) that would appear in the media pool but would still reference back to the original clip (in case I need to expand my ins and outs). Is this possible?

Also, is there a way to rename clips in the media pool (even this would help my clip management).

Thanks

Jesse

Hi nihil,

You might try marking, naming and saving regions using the trimmer. This is the Vegas analog to sub-clipping.

You can then list-view those regions in Vegas explorer, or put them in "scratch-tracks" in the timeline for sorting, organization and rough sequences.

In the TL, you can also display and rename the "active take" to lable them however you like.

Jesse,
If you open one of your long clips in the Trimmer, you can mark your sub-clips and drag them to the timeline. They will forever relate to the original so that if you drag to expand them they expand as far as the original will go. (If you drag even further than that the original will start to repeat.) The marks you set in Trimmer can be saved with the media.

When a project is finished you may choose to save the .veg WITH the media in a special folder, different disk, whatever. Then the media will be trimmed down to what you have actually used or thereabouts. After that, naturally, you can't expand as easily on the cuts you have decided. (But you did say it was finished, didn't you?)

Thanks for the speedy replies!

I'm using the trimmer to open clips and mark regions within large clips. Being able to view those regions as marked would be valuable. How do I view those in Vegas explorer?

As an aside. This forum and its participants are terrific!
