Creating video for vertical display?

I have a client that wants to have a video playing on a 16x9 lcd screen that he wants mounted vertical so it ends up 9x16. I know I can change the properties of my project to custom to reflect the change in dimension. But does anyone have insight as to how the tv would properly project the image? Does he need a special player or monitor that allows you to rotate the output 90 degrees?

I've seen a few of these and I think the content is create to work in 9:16. If you just rotate what the driver is feeding to the display like you can with many displays and drivers then you're going to have a problem, the video will still be horizontal, your say 1920x1200 display area will be 1200x675 with empty space top and bottom.
