Creative ways to do intro's,

J_Mac wrote on 1/17/2004, 1:22 PM
New Year greetings to all! I recently was confronted by a client, with the use of a veg for player introduction on 2 different projects. To my surprise they were a member of both sets of members. In researching this problem, I determined I'll need between 36 and 48 different player introducton veg's to prevent this occuring again. Oddly enough standard credit roll type with PIP or pics and background video are universally acceptable. Add a little creativity, and they are dissatisfied.
My problem is my right hand, seldom is even aware that I have a left hand, let alone my internal hemispheres. I watch movies, TV etc. and I am hoping the folks in this forum can help in filling my creative black hole. Thanks in advance, John.

Is this auto-translated from another language? It's not making much sense. (to me, anyway)

I don't follow you. ..I mean that comment makes sense but I am not sure what you are asking now because of that comment. You want some help in being creative but it sounds like you can't be because the clients rejected all your intros because they weren't standard?

Sorry...Gary and I are lost in your creative black hole I think. :)

I'm in the same place... my mind is working overtime trying to imagine what this is all about.

So, I completed project 'A' with a veg in a format with names and pictures sliding in and out to the music, Format 'A' for client A, and he distributes them to the members in his group.
After a few months I finished project 'B'. In project 'B', I reused the veg, Format 'A', with the names and the pics sliding in and out. (Different names and different pics). Same format and music for the intro for client B.
Client A passes out his project to his people. Members A
Client B passes out his project to his people. Members B
Projects A and B were completly different videos, except they shared the same intro format and music.
One person received both videos, because they are a member of Client A's group and a member of client B's group.

My solution was to build a library of intros using different formats, or veggies, to use in future projects.
But now it is evident I need a larger library, and hoped I could solicit some suggestions from the forum for other formats to use. I apologize for not expressing things clearly. I'll try again. Thanks again, John.

YOU are caught in a Taiken's rift !!!!!

So I gather you are after new ways of buidling intros.

Well, for me there are as many ways as there are projects - each one has its own nature and each one has it's own unique intro.

Apart from the ways you can display video, stills or graphics, (e.g. PIP, composites with transparency, motion, transitions etc) there are so many other variables such as backgound colours/gradients, fonts, music ....

I often find that the music I create sets the tone and pace for everything else, but the music itself should be reflective of the programme itself.

I guess that I'm saying as an answer to your question, there's no right answer.

Gary is right. I do have nightmares and tremors from this lack. Kentwolf is caught in the echo rift. Peter has it exactly right, and that is why I came here for inspiration. I am hoping for format (veg) inspiration. Recent examples would be "24" on Fox, Matrix, or even the Brady bunch. I thought you would have some ideas of things that have worked for you. Maybe the problem is bigger than I initially thought. Thanks again, John

As a starting point, John, you could visit dse's site: http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/

There are so many downloadable veg files there you'll get dizzy. Many of them could form the basis of an intro sequence. You have to sign up first, but I'm sure you'll find some inspiration ....

I would recommend either More or Less drugs. Separate the experiments by several days and see which works better.
