Crocolis HD quest.

Rory Cooper wrote on 11/16/2011, 12:33 AM
I received my Crocolis but haven’t had any real time to try it out. I am going to slap this thing on a bird trainers head “side” and see what pops out.
Birds are Eagles, falcons, Toucan etc

Full sun. what settings should I use Settings suggestions for 720p/50

Contrast: hard/soft/standard.
Sharpness: hard/soft/standard
ISO: 100 / 200 / 400
EV settings: from 0 to 2 top end to -2 bottom end.

I can put some meat behind the bird trainers ear for some close up action stuff but my Crocolis might get damaged.

I've left everything as standard, ISO at 100 and EV at -0.3 although I think you could go even a bit lower to say -0.7.

When all else fails, test, test and test again.

The Croc is pretty robust but what about the poor bird trainer, he might end up like Van Gogh.

Shot thanks Bob. Let me try those settings. I was hoping for a quick reply we are setting it up right now.

It will take a while to get used to the feel of the croc.
Anyway ….can you really call it an action shot if there is no blood?

Busy with some direct shots should be a lot better

Not bad but I'm seeing the same problem in that footage that I've noticed in some of mine, you get the odd frame with quite severe breakup. Oddly enough it doesn't happen with full frame motion, just when there's something in one part of the frame that moves very quickly.

Bob if I film at 60p outdoors = so no artificial light flickers . and I slow the clip to 25 frame project = PAL, will this cause issues with Vegas or post production down the line.

Also you have very good eyes I never noticed any bad frames when I ripped it.

It should be fine, just change the playback speed so Vegas does no interpolation.

"Also you have very good eyes I never noticed any bad frames when I ripped it"

Same here, it's only when I playback the footage at speed that I notice wierd problems. I suspect it has something to do with shutter speed and motion blur. I've not noticed the problem in footage shot at lower light I think. I really need to do some more testing.

How are these Crocolis HD's holding up? Are you finding them useful and holding up quality-wise?

Thinking of a couple of these for static placement around a kitchen for cooking videos.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I bought one a few months back and have played around a bit - riding with helmet cam etc. I've also stuck it fully submerged into a bucket of water for a project and it still works now (so the "O" ring must work!). I had a few really basic set up questions, but a combination of a bit of help from rory Cooper (thanks!) and fiddling around myself is working out. AT $200 of whatever, I'm just happy to get a bit of reasonable looking footage out of this little camera, Now emboldened, I have some further submersible projects ahead for this unit. For what it is, I'm very happy with it, both settings (1080) and partic the 720 setting has considerable fisheye distortion, which doesn't matter one bit to me, I actually quite like the look, but might be important for some.

Regards,

Duncan

Thanks, I'm thinking there is too much fish eye for what I want. I can't get it too close to the stove for heat/steam/spashes, etc.
