cropping stills for NTSC DVD widescreen

The resolution of the preview window for NTSC DVD widescreen in VMS is 873x480.
(1.212 PAR). The resolution standard for NTSC DVD widescreen is 853x480. 16/9*480=853. (correct me if I'm wrong). What is the best approach to cropping stills to view on a standard 16/9 widescreen TV ?

Should I stick with 873 or should I set VMS to a custom number of 853? I don't care about
losing 10 pixels per side, as long as there are no black bars on the top or botttom with the slightly wider 873.

Thanks

Can't tell you the "best" approach for you, but the most commonly used method is to start with stills that larger than your output dimensions, and using Event Pan/Crop to do just that and fill your frame.

Lots of detailed posts and tutorials about this. Do a search.
