cropping to match aspect ratio

I am new to Movie Studio 17 platinum, coming from Powerdirector. This is a very basic question. I've switched as MS is much better at displaying and therefore syncing 2 audio wave forms. I have a 16:9 format video that i want to render as 9:16, but effectively cropping right and left of the central subject which fits into a portrait format. In Powerdirector you drag the corner handles out until the top and bottom of the media match the new aspect ratio filling the frame and then drag right or left to centre the area of interest. pic attached to show what I mean. I've tried the pan and crop tool but can't get the clip to fill the new 9:16 frame. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but an online search hasn't got me there. Any suggestions? Thank you!

@roger-h Your picture isn't attached and I'm not entirely clear on your problem. But if your project is set to 9:16 aspect then right click on the crop box and select "Match output aspect".

Great, thanks, yes thats what i needed. I didn't think to right click, I was looking at the aspect ratio options on the left.
