Curly quotes in text box

Is there a way to get curly quotes (instead of strait quotes) in a text box?

When I type a quote or apostrophe into the generated media editor, it's always straight. In other video editors, I can use Microsoft Word to create a curly quote and the past it into the editor. When I do it in Vegas, it show up curly in the editor, but it renders as straight.

Maybe it works for some fonts, but not others? I haven't found any that work.

I'm creating a video that has an apostrophe in the title. I'd really like for it to look nice (meaning, curly) in the opening credits.

You can always use alt keys to create these types of characters.

Hold down the Alt key as you type each of these numbers and, when you release the key, the following will appear:

alt+0146 ’ (apostrophe)
alt+0147 “ (open quotes)
alt+0148 ” (close quotes)

There are many many more. Do a search on Alt key codes and you'll find there are ways to create any number of characters, included accented vowels and currencies from around the world.

Those shortcuts don't work in my version of Vegas. Shows as smart quotes in the text box but not in Preview or Render.

None of the common entities (Hex, Unicode, Decimal) work either.

Musicvid,

They seem to work in Pro Titler, but not the Vegas titler. But I guess VMS doesn't have Pro Titler.

There's a bug in early builds of Platinum HD 11.0. In the lastest build (283), the new text titler renders curly quotes correctly, as long as they are not in a Type 1 font (they must be TrueType). Type 1 fonts are not rendered properly (but in the first 11.0 build they didn't appear at all, so things are improving).

The legacy text titler has never handled curly quotes properly. I submitted a bug report for that in 10.0, but I don't know if it was acted upon. I've also submitted a bug report for 11.0 (283) for the incorrect rendering of Type 1 fonts in the new titler, but as long as you use a TrueType font with this new build, you should be able to get curly quotes now. Alt-0145 and Alt-0146 give single quotes, Alt-0147 and Alt-0148 give double quotes.
