CURSOR LOOPS .25s while timeline & trimmer play normally

BUG REPORT
The moving cursor is stuck in a .250 second loop although the tracks in the timeline or trimmer window play normally.
No moving cursor is visible at all in the trimmer window.
In the timeline window the fixed position cursor flashes because the moving cursor is in the .250 second loop at that position.
The timecode window shows the loop occurring.
Everything else works normally on the timeline or trimmer, including range and loop functions!

I have been unable to resolve this regardless of any settings that I could find. It happened before the 3.0a update as well. I had to completely reset to default to clear it. Now it's back again. I don't have a clue what I did to trigger it if that matters, but it "stuck" from the project where it started.

Can anyone give me a quick work around to reset everything, if not a 100% solution? Maybe I can duplicate the error. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Once again I am the most responsive -- and I will answer myself:

I figured this out the last time and had forgotten. Apparently there is a glitch with Audigy ex that prevents 24-bit recording -- in spite of the fact that I am using an external converter and a SP/DIF in. This is the only sign there is a problem. Set 24bit to 16bit and it goes away.

Long term solution? I really have to get up enough nerve to install the ECHO MIA soundcard I've already bought. I don't relish the thought of playing with another sound card.
