Custom Cookie cutter fx possible?(and some How to)

Hi,

My apologies if I could not find what I'm trying to do in vegas V7 (I'll update if I have to).

I am trying to use the cookie cutter to break up an image into various pieces, (show the image in say 40 little boxes), but Iike to customize that to not show the lower boxes of the image, or only show pieces of the picture (like a puzzle with missing pieces, but with square shapes, usually at the end of the image).

Am I explaining this right?

I then found this site, that I would also like to do...flash as the little boxes appear.

Look at around 1-5 seconds..

I'm working on a project for World Vision after my local youth center got some funding and now wants to show the progress they have made..not sure why but I'm all pumped up and helping out as much as I can ..all for free too..

Thanks for any suggestions

i wouldn't use a cookie cutter. I'd make up a series of stills in gimp, one still for each layout of the boxes. Then I'd import that as an image sequence, lay it over, slow it down, stretch it out & use the alpha channel.

You might get a few ideas from the How to: Puzzle effect thread.

If I understand correctly what you want, this can be done with a single grayscale image and the SMLuminance plugin. I have a tutorial for this called Custom Transition Using an Image Mask. The example I create isn't quite what you want, but will give you an idea of the steps needed.

Note that to get the "pieces" to fade in rather than just appear, you should adjust the Softness setting for the SMLuminance plugin.

Update: Link fixed. Hey, Sony, how about accepting quotes around URLs?

bstro: that link is not avaliable for some reason. :(

SonyEPM: Thanks, sounds like a lot of work but it might be just what I need to do.

TheHappyFriar : Thanks, might be my back-up plan..what's a gimp? (file type?)

Rob, grab Jonathn Neal's Sony Creative Software Forum Preview Tool and don't worry about mistakes any more :-)

edit: there's also AlanC's Easy Link Creator.

ohhh that was a bmp (sorry) I though maybe a new fle type was out there...I gave it a shot and looks like it could work for me....but wow, the work involved....eeeek!

I added these three little boxes but when I apply the flash fx, it flashes the whole screen and not just the little box..is this where the cookie cutter comes in?

Thanks all for your help.

A Gimp is a Photoshop replacement.
